Announcing

Earth Village SummerCamp 2010

Summer camp is about making connections, making connections with new friends, amazing counselors and beautiful places, making connections with the forest and the sky, making connections with ourselves, our growth and our abilities.

In addition to the wonderful activities that are traditional; archery, swimming & silly songs, we will be making crafts & building shelters from natural materials. Night hikes and campouts will reinforce the theme of feeling at home in the woods. All cabins will come together as a village to share adventures, challenges, music and a culminating pow-wow at the end of the week. The daily rhythm of lessons will be tailored to student needs with three sessions of exploration and skill building and a fourth to relax, play games, swim or journal in a pristine setting. Poetry, dance, storytelling, singing and drumming will be an integral part of our campfires and closing pow-wow. A good time is guaranteed for all!

With hands on craft projects, leadership and survival skills we will promote teambuilding, stewardship and personal connections. Our activities and celebrations will center on renewing our connections to the earth and each other. Participants will learn different skills which will empower them and generate concepts of responsible use of resources and appreciation of our natural surroundings.

The natural resources of Camp Whittier provide an ideal spot for many of these activities.

Activities include:Yucca cordage / rope making
Shelter building / camping
Council of All Beings
Drum Circles
Native American Culture
Primitive Survival Skills
Archery / arrow making
Papermaking with local plant materials
Mask making and Storytelling
Nature prints

These activities and more would be combined in our summer camp format to make an enriching and deeper experience available to our summer camp participants.
